Emission Testing

All of our buses are sold with a valid E-test certificate. These certificates are valid for at least one year. When your bus is due for an emission test you will receive a notice when you vehicle plate renewal comes in the mail. If the bus tests clean and the emissions are below a certain measured level, then you will only have to have a diesel emission test every two years.

The 6.0 Ford Diesel engine is a reliable and clean running engine if it is properly maintained. It should not produce any particulate emissions nor smoke at all. If you see black smoke coming from the tailpipe it usually means that the injectors need to be cleaned or repaired. It is normal to see some black smoke on start-up but after the vehicle has reached operating temperature or has warmed up there should not be any visible black smoke. If you see white smoke this means that your fuel mixture needs adjustment or your glow plugs, or your glow plug timer,  are not working properly and the smoke is caused by improperly burned diesel fuel. White smoke can also indicate that the engine is burning oil.

You can check any vehicle’s emission testing history to see if a vehicle needs an emission test by visiting this Drive Clean website and entering the VIN number for the vehicle:
